How was Temperanceville named? Love's Corners at Temperanceville
What's in a name? In 1809 the Love family invited neighbours to worship with them in their home. The Love family home was so close to the present location of the church, that the distance would be measured better in feet, rather than in miles. The neighbourhood was known as Love's Corners. While the Love family moved out of the neighbourhood; LOVE, God's LOVE, never left. God's LOVE is here, always with us.
The Love's Corners community built a log church at first and then replaced that with a brick church in 1854 and eventually with the present day church in 1897. God's LOVE also moved the hearts and minds of the Love's Corners community to raise awareness about the harm of alcoholism and to make a difference about it. Several Temperance societies carried out that work. Their strong impact led to re-naming the neighbourhood and the congregation Temperanceville.
People who gathered for friendship and for kind-hearted service to others in the early decades of the Love’s Corners–Temperanceville community included indigenous families and families from Asia and from western Europe. The name Temperanceville is a sign of service to others. Successive generations maintain the name and service to others.
